Wednesday, November 29th

Good Evening, Room 36 Families!
We've started Chapter 5 in our math, and that means double-digit multiplication. When I was in 4th grade, we all learned one way to solve a problem like 23 x 74 -- using the "old fashioned" standard algorithm.  With the Common Core, students are learning several different strategies to solve double-digit multiplication problems.  One of the strategies we have been exploring this week is Lattice Multiplication.  If you are not familiar with this method, there are several videos on YouTube that explain it -- I have included one here:
Homework:
- Read at least 20 minutes
- FINISH: Lattice Multiplication A and B
- FINISH: Close Reading

Good Afternoon, Room 36 Families!
At parent conferences, I gave each family a recommended reading list based on their student's Lexile level. In class today I gave students an additional list of recommended books in their range. The only way for students to bring their independent reading up to grade level (600-900) is to read, read, read! (At their Lexile level)
