Fractions
Hi Room 36 Families,
I just wanted to encourage you all to continue working with your students on their math at home.
We have started working with fractions, and this is where I can really see a division between students who are fluent in their multiplication facts and students who are not.
Students need to be able to work with both factors and multiples to do fraction work.
In addition to ReflexMath (which students should still be working on!) there are a number of math games online that might help encourage skills practice:
Free MATH Games on Sheppard Software
Fraction Games on MathPlayground
4th Grade Skills Games on ABCya (MATH in blue section)

Good Afternoon, Room 36 Families!
We have a big week ahead: Valentine's Day tomorrow, our field trip to King Gillette Ranch on Wednesday, and more rain at the end of the week!
We will have a Valentine exchange tomorrow, but we won't have a "party". (We will be out of the classroom all day on Wednesday, and I think they will be getting enough sugar as it is!) I will have blank "color and cut" valentines for students, in case they don't have a chance to make/buy any before tomorrow.
In preparation for the field trip on Wednesday, students have been asked to interview a family member. (Students were given the assignment sheet on Friday.) They have three brief questions they will need to ask a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc.
We have two official chaperones for our Wednesday field trip, and they will be riding on the bus with the students. If you were interested in chaperoning, but were NOT one of the first two to request, I sent home a note with your child with information about how to get there on your own.
Homework:
- Read 20 minutes (independent reading at Lexile level)
- MyMath: Chapter 8, Lesson 3 (p. 509-510)
- Figurative Language: Similes
- Finish Field Trip Interview assignment if necessary

Good Afternoon, Room 36 Families!
We got to go to the Library today! Students who passed their Reading Counts (Lexile book) test, were able to check out another book on their list! Ms. Evans also gave us a heads-up about Dr. Seuss Week and the Dr. Seuss poetry contest that are coming up. It's going to be lots of fun!
The 4th grade will be going on a field trip to King Gillette Ranch on Wednesday, February 15th. I sent home field trip permission slips today. This trip involves a hike, and many outdoor activities. Students should dress accordingly.
Each classroom will need two parent chaperones. I will take volunteers on a first-come, first-served basis. Please only volunteer if you are interested in working with, and supervising, a group of about ten 4th graders.
Hopefully we will be able to have the Top "10" Dojo Party on Wednesday! I've had to push it back a couple of times because of the rainy day lunch schedule.
Students will have both a Math and Language Arts test tomorrow.
Homework:
- Read 20 minutes (independent reading/Lexile level book)
- MyMath: Chapter 6 - Check My Progress (worksheet)
- Study: Spider VOCABULARY (cautious, cunning, dreary, flatter, parlor, weary)
